ANSES and the CEA renew their partnership
ANSES and the CEA are renewing their partnership agreement to continue a rich tradition of scientific cooperation.
On 10 October 2023, Benoit Vallet, Director General of ANSES, and Julie Galland, Director General for Technology Research at the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA), renewed the agreement between the two organisations. The aim of this agreement is to strengthen the role of innovative technologies in the detection, control, and prevention of health risks in animals, plants, and food.
Under the first partnership agreement, signed in 2018, a number of joint research projects were launched that focused, for example, on:
- validating a miniature air sampling system for monitoring airborne contamination in poultry farm buildings and their environment, particularly for avian influenza surveillance,
- rapidly identifying pathogenic bacteria in food,
- improving the detection and identification of toxins in food and the environment,
- measuring exposure to electromagnetic waves,
- detecting disinfectant residues in the environment and food.
The partnership between the two institutions has been renewed for a further five years. Ongoing projects will be continued and new ones initiated. Several topics of joint research have been identified, including the adaptation of lens-free imaging systems to detect parasites in food and plants, the development of smart sensors to detect pollutants in the environment, and the development of organoids, also known as ‘organs-on-a-chip’, to model the effects of plant protection products and pathogens while limiting the need for animal testing.
Both organisations are also involved in the European Partnership for the Assessment of Risks from Chemicals (PARC), which began in 2022 and is coordinated by ANSES.
